When I was very young

all the people walked by

And I stood still and watched

Somehow learnt not to cry

And as I grew older

our house grew damp and cold

Feelings of anger raged on the wallls

Not even black paint could cover splatters of blood

And the glasses broke, trembling in fear

And when night came it took all control

Wrapped its claws around our throats

if we tried to move we would die

our sleep was no more than one huge lie;

And I grew up

I havd grown with this all

It came to me

though I did not call;

And every single day

It won't leave me alone

Don't want to remember

Can't hang up the phone;

Echoes of trauma instilled by explosions

And now I grow older and live with their blasts

All I can do is turn my head

Reach for some love to pull me through

And slowly walk along

this one safe avenue.
