Childhood Days

Poem By: S Nayar
Poetry

This is a flashback to some of my favourite childhood memories. A wish to return to days when life was simple and worry free. View table of contents...

Longing for childhood days
old memories unearthed
emanating life afresh
like tilled soil after summer rain

Dreaming again of carefree days
stealing unripened mangoes from neighbours’ trees
chasing broken kites and butterflies
collecting yellow flowers teased free by spring's breeze

Spreading cooling henna on sun chapped hands
stringing white flowers through soft black hair
basking in moonlit nights drenched with jasmine
heady, haunting queen of the night

Flaming amber sunrises pregnant with anticipation
for another day of light-hearted play
of floating boats in monsoon rains
of leaping off cliffs into warm blue seas

Yearning for simpler times once more
when a father's hands
could mend anything broken
and a mother's tender touch
kissed away the deepest hurt

Wishing for a time yet again
when life was happy
Craving a time again
when life was truly free

Hi
Sorry the last comment transmitted while I was still typing. Probably because I was rushing to say what a
stunning piece of writing I think this is!
The descriptive words just flood the senses.
Definitely one I will repeat read. An easy 'like it'!

Thanks matey! Yeah I wrote this when I was going through a difficult personal situation and just wanted to go back to a time when life was much less complicated. I was fortunate enough to experience all the sensory things represented here - so found it quite cathartic in revisting them!
Happy writing - looking forward to reading some of your stuff.
