A Teenage Failure

Poetry By: Saint Sibiya
Young adult

I wrote this in 2011, I describe how most teenagers are so eager to understand life, they desire to impress others, and make bad decisions, when they hit their lowest point those they seek to impress are nowhere to be found , they find comfort in substances which destroy them further and end up as failures who are only active in the night have no purpose during the day

Young and mundane, avid for contemplation

Leisurely grows your mane, nourished by attention

It's a hunger impossible to tame

Like feeding multiple bellies you're living to amuse many

False pride blinds you daily

Advice is like a penny thrown down a wishing well

But to no result for the hand from which it fell

The demon inside you is so frantic

You're faced with many divided paths

With a blurred conscious your choice is tragic

This is your party but you have no idea what you've invited

Drizzle turns into a storm

The wind blows and thunder roars too early for you to bare

Having ignored the truth this time you must play dare

You cry for help but nobody's there

Those you once fed didn't really care

Suddenly you're drenched in despair and bemused by fear

Yet still you evade the truth and end up nowhere

A stranger appears with the power to repair

Yet this power is merely an illusion

Good enough to ease the mind but only temporarily

It's like standing in a fire for its warmth while it burns your flesh away

Eventually you must burn to live

Hypnotized by this drug this alcohol this lifestyle

You reminisce in remorse and you picture yourself as a child

"How did my life end up this way?" you ask

You remember what mama used to say and realize you've failed

But like the penny in the well you're confined in a shell

You're at the bottom, it's too late, you've built your cocoon

Instead of a butterfly you emerge as a moth

You shall only show up in the dark and chase little lights

And you'll never be good enough for day light.
