Even Though I Don't Want You To, Please, Let Go

Poetry By: SavvyApple

You've always been there for me, and I'm sure that you always will be. After today, you'll be with me. Just, not with me.

You've been there forever.
I never wanted to move on.
I never wanted to let go.
But I did.
Please, Dad, I'm moving on.
But you won't release me from you're grasp.
Don't make it harder than it needs to be,
Just let go,
and don't let me look back.
I'm making the right move
But you have to trust me.
It might make me go far
It might drag me back down
But you'll be there, right?
I know you will be,
Because you always have been.
I slip on the white dress
and look at myself in the mirror.
I'm riding a bike without training wheels.
I'm beating you at the game you always win at.
I'm scaring you for a change.
I'm learning how to drive
with you being nervous in the passenger seat.
I'm learning about morgage.
I'm learning.
I'll continue to learn.
But the next lesson is outside of our house.
You're walking me down the aisle now
tears streaming silently down your face.
You kiss me good luck
and hand me over.
You didn't let go, Dad
Please, let go.
I don't want you to let go.
I never wanted to let go either.
But as the ring slides onto my finger
I take my chances
and look at you.
You're smiling
You're nodding.
You're urging me to go on.
You're letting go.
Don't let go Daddy,
I'm you're little girl.
Don't let go Daddy,
Be with me forever.
I never wanted you to let go
but you have to sometimes.
I never wanted to let go
But I made the mistake of doing just that.
I never wanted you to let go
But you did.
Don't let go Daddy,
Let me be with you forever.
