Steady the heavy cannon

prepares to release its load

The dark sky

abuzz with anticipation

In silence and

trailing wonder

The star is free

and travels the night

The aching cheeks

and broad smile

Reveal this shooting

a happy event

Steady the heavy cannon

prepares to release its load

The desert sky

numb with fear

In silence and

seeking destruction

The missile is free

and travels the night

The aching hearts

and fallen tears

Reveal this shooting

a sad event

Thank you very much.

That is an excellent poem. Where I am I would hope a light in the sky is a shooting star (or am I too trusting?)

Nicely contrasted and the shooting star in the desert would still be a wonderous and pleasing sight to whoever released it!

Correct, the idea came from me wondering what 3 wise men would make of a bright star in the middle east today, the chances are, it would have been dispatched from an anchored naval ship somewhere far away.

I simply loved this poem..esp the 1st and last verse..so well crafted!!

Thank you.

This is really good. I especially enjoyed the emphasis on the meaning of the words. Write ON.
