The grinding wheels of science

release the salt of their labour

Each manufactured grain

heavy with the muscle of man

Finally sieved through

the twitchy fingers of time

Then sprinkled randomly

amongst porous granite

Travelling the grand helix

on a wet blanket of seed

Several attempts at cracking flint

finally produce a spark of single celled life
