Bathed in moonlite, a hungry wolf sets out to capture dinner.

The Gray Wolf

silhouetted and hungry

Announces his starvation

the moon his back drop

His nose leads him

to the forest edge

Nervous twitches

snap the peace of night

Possible prey

know where to hide

He scents where

to look

Each step is calculated

heavy print in his wake

Cold night air

captures his exiting sweat

Then with turn of head

and turn of pace

The chase begins

eyes narrow

A frightened Caribou

antler snagged on tree

Falls under the weight

of sharp teeth

Death spills onto

the ground

His bark-howl now

one of total satisfaction
