His inked feather, sodden with promise

blots the squared thirsty tissue

Words fall like unexpected spring rain

parachutes of doubt controlling their fall

Each splash a small inviting puddle

for the heavy boot of criticism to stomp

Squeezed is the bottle of blue liquid

unrealisedlabour that swims wet

Aching to be put to work

plough the demanding paper

The oil lamp a stuttering witness

to his acidic wand, as magic is born

*What's new to speak, what new to register

* William Shakespeare Sonnet 108
