Your Father Wants You To Know

Before you fold those clothes

and fall naked into the pond of love

Seek your reflection,

question the rippled image returned

Ask what tempts you,

curiosity is not enough

The yearn for the waters

should grip your pounding heart

Take a slow walk,

frame the red inviting waves

Spy others that swim,

ask what makes them so buoyant

The decision to bathe

will test your hearts resolve

Its fragile contents

placed in shallow trust

Avoid the sharks and reeds

that stalk the murky lake

Read with understanding

the plaques quoting danger

While splashes of chatter

are of course welcome

It is the shower of action

that really soaks the skin

Your Father wants you to know

if things ever go wrong

I remain here on the dock

a comforting towel in hand

My arms forever open

hoping the cloth forever dry

I hope you navigate the seas

your journey for love, satisfying
