There are voices resounding in the brain when you're caught off guard...

Caught Off Guard

My day was perfectly planned

With meetings all over the place

No room to breathe or make mistakes

I was busy keeping busy.

And then you walked in …

I couldn't find the words.

Time froze to match my heart.

I didn't know where to start.

You stood there, confused, so I excused,

I pulled it together, then returned bemused.

I'm logical - so where are my thoughts?

I'm organised - no, still, no connection…

Business! Business! Not emotion!

Too late; you held my attention.

Your eyes smiled - sorry what was the question?

Your voice - don't ever stop talking.

Your honesty - perfumed my air.

Your dinner plans? - Oh! Wish I was there.

You're doing nothing? - Ah! My pleasure!

Where's my mind? Pull it together!

The hour's gone? No, surely no.

It's cold out there, it's best not to go,

There's so much I still have to say;

Please don't leave me, please don't go away.

A last question: Can I keep you…

Please stay
