Poetry By: Shannan Browne
Poetry

The meaning we put to things that inherently have no meaning, is that what makes us human, or insane?

Meaning Anniversary

The Anniversary:

A day

Made more

Than its intrinsic worth;

Made meaningful

Beyond the seconds

Beyond the moment

Recalled history, set-up future.

Joy dampened.

Joy renewed.

Heartache revisited.

Love celebrated.

The Anniversary:

More than it is,

In connotation,

Impounded history.

The reality

Made more.

To individuals

So much more.

Is value assigned

Worth the emotion?

Can we, should we, reduce it?

Or is its power… the meaning?
