Over time things happen, and that's what happens

They Once Were

They were a mountain peak up high,

Up where the eagles fly the sky,

But then came time, pain and suffering,

Slowly and methodically, persisting,

With lightning, thunder and rain,

Turning strength to: Broken in strain;

Leaving rocks to be the next stage,

The result of weathered rage,

The rocks took a beating too,

An earthquake, a landslide or two,

Knocked, pushed, crushed down to stones,

The mountain cut down to its bones,

Battered some more through the storm,

Smaller particles left further torn,

Became nothing but dust...

...

And I watched my dreams drift away;

Nothing left, but reality to stay...
