You’re an “Off Switch”
You, grinning next to me without reason,
A twinkle in your eye;
That switched off my rationality.
You, standing next to me,
Radiating electricity;
That switched off my brain.
You, holding the door for me,
Acting like you were a gentleman;
That switched off my protest reactions.
You, automatically helping me,
Giving me whatever I needed;
That switched off my vocabulary.
You switched off my anxiety,
You switched off my pain,
You switched off my defenses,
You drove me insane.
You switched off depression,
You switched off tears,
You made the world seem better
Just because you were there.
How could I not find myself left with love
When you had switched off fear?
Pity, that now you’re gone,
I’m the one living with it all switched on.
