In lieu of a birthday card I wrote this poem when my beloved nephew turned one. I can hardly believe he is two on wednesday.

One Today My Nephew

It's your birthday. And you are one today my nephew.

Three hundred and sixty five blessed days we've known you.

And in that time we all have laughed with you and learnt with you

We were there through the nights and days with you and held

Our breath and took those very first steps with you.

And when you learned of pain, we cried with you.

It's your birthday. And you are one today my nephew.

And of all the gifts you get today may you please remember

That the greatest gift of all is you.

You are cherished and adored and when we can't be with

You, sorely missed.

And when we meet again you are swept up in loving arms and

Held oh so tight as your scent is breathed in and your ruddy cheeks

Are kissed.

It's your birthday. And you are one today my nephew.

And if I were the sort to pray I'd certainly pray for you.

Because you are my kin. A part of the family I love so dear.

And because of the great many smiles you've brought to

All of our faces this year.

It's your birthday. And you are one today my nephew.

And as you grow through the years, think of us, your

Family and know that our love for you will always grow too.
