Come Dance My Princess

Poetry By: skilletgirl2

A poem I wrote on Mother's Day. How time flies with children!

Come Dance My Princess
Come dance my princess
May I have a kiss?
Sweep me across your room
In a youthful, girl-ish way
Let the lingering love
On your fingers stay
Look into my eyes
So I know you love me
I wonder every day
And when you leave
I'll cry and pray
You never go away
I'll never forget
When I held you
Cradled you to my soft breasts
Not only you were born that day,
But was I
A love birthed inside me
I will carry until I die
My barefoot, beautiful baby
I love you
As you look into the sky
And it expands into the blue
That's how much I do
Come dance my princess
One last time
Hear in the distance
Your wedding bells chime
Goodness how time flies
Wasn't it just yesterday
I was changing your diapers?
Hold you through the night?
Protecting you from a bully's fight?
Singing you to sleep?
Praying as you weep?
Sending you off to pre-school?
Teaching you the Golden Rule
My princess
No matter how near
No matter how far
Come home to
My wide open arms
That are full of love
Pure and poignant, like a dove
Its where you belong
Yes in embrace with me
Where all the day's tears
Are gently caressed free
Oh dance with me my princess
For the tiny time we have
I pray thee
Your response will be
Oh, yes ma'am!
