I taste the blood in my mouth
My body lies amongst the rest
Fallen…
~
Proud we stood against the flood
A wall against the stars
Tall we looked against the night
Held in each others arms
~
Smoke was rolling in the hills
Fires brightly blazed through the wood
A war was on the way
Like a torrent moves on whispered feet
They poured from out the flame
Shadows scuttled far below
Cries of help, cries of hate
Tried to break our bond in two
~
Sighing, diving, I threw my weight
And launched into the fray
The whispers in the waves
That swam so close around our feet
Brought questions born on lies
Doubts on wings of truth
~
I fought that day against the world
To save my lovers heart
But each whisper that I slew
Left behind some piece of sense
A puzzle built of broken truth
A riddle of my soul
~
My guard had dropped unknown to me
As I gathered what had fallen
My mind had wandered dumbly
As I questioned what was done
And as I went to stand
My hands brimming with these thoughts
I felt the steel slide in my heart
The death flow through my veins
~
with my final breath I turned to see
To gaze my reapers face
~
Two tear stained eyes looked back at me
A face of stricken pain
Shaking hands gripped a bleeding knife
And my lover watched me fall
~
Questions tumbled at my feet That day
The answers buried with the bodies
I fell amongst them heavily
The sadness weighing in my soul
~
I taste the blood in my mouth
My body lies amongst the rest
Fallen…
