A short poem, about my Falling in and out of love

In my breast I feel it beating. Like a cadence it goes on. The ever changing rhythm is comforting, and yet so frightening. Once, the beating became still. No longer swaying between frivolities, it stayed true. For years it maintained its path, it's walls slowly crumbling. The heart, weak and tender without its walls, hopes that what it longs for has been found. A compatible heart of a similar beat. so sure the heart has found its match, it absorbs the other. Melding into one, the hearts share in everything. Happy and content, they dream and build a life. Through this life they become strong. And yet, through this life there grows a darkness. This pain, this anguish grows inside the heart. For it knows the other will not last. In hopes of giving strength, the heart does not show weakness. Darkness, like the ocean, consumes all. the heart, the beat that was so compatible slips away. Lost forever in the tide, leaving the heart. A broken shell, a life with no soul, a heart without a beat.
