You saw the tears that I cried

fall in to the river last night

And like those tears you can't be

cause you both have to flow to the sea.

But even though you're my best friend

you'll disappear around the next bend

And like a leaf that a strong wind blows

along with my tears I'll have to let you go.

The river flows but in one direction

I thought two till I got my correction

When I jumped in to catch up to you

I couldn't so I knew we were through.

And this letter that I write today

sealed in a bottle that I'll throw away

Away down the river to see it float

sending my heart along in a love note.

But even though it beats for my friend

it disappears around the next bend

And like a leaf that a strong wind blows

along with my tears I have to let my heart go.

How can you come back to me

and return my heart and set me free

From filling this river with tears of blue

when it wont even take me back to you.

You haven't seen these tears that I cry

along with my tears I had to let you go.
