He came out on the stage dressed in black

with a guitar that was slung across his back

He grabbed the mic and said in a flash

Hello, my name is Johnny Cash.

I might sing a pop rock song

but my heart is country strong

now don't you go and take me wrong

I have sung some pop rock songs.

Could you hear old Johnny Cash

try to sing the Monster Mash

for that would be oh such a site

like trying to sing The Lion Sleeps Tonight.

But just so I can get to you

I will sing the Folsom Blues

do you want to hear Bad News

I won't try to sing Sh-Boom.

If I had to sing All Over Again

I might try the Hoochie Goochie Man

But I do better now with the Angel Band

while you want to hear The Devil's Right Hand.

He slowly walked off the stage dressed in black

with a guitar that was slung across his back

Someone grabbed the mic and said in a flash

Goodbye June Carter and Johnny Cash.

They might sing a pop rock song

but their hearts were country strong

now don't you go and take them wrong

Yes they have sung some pop rock songs.

Could you hear old Johnny Cash

try to sing the Monster Mash

for that would be oh such a site

like trying to sing The Lion Sleeps Tonight.
