Praises be to old Johnny Cash

he's not around any more

when he lost June Carter we lost him fast

I'll just listen to John's records from my own private stash

it was many years ago

when John was a big smash.

Glory be to old John Denver

who died in a plane crash

it was worse than a little fender bender

I'll just listen to John's records they're a real heart mender

it was many years ago

when John was a hit winner .

Out with the old and in with the new

I still like to keep the old near

for they had a different point of view

and I wish that they were all still here

Praises be to old John Prine

who gets lost in his music

to keep from losing what's left of his mind

I'll just listen to John's records when I have the time

it was many years ago

when John was a gold mine.

Glory be to old John Mellencamp

who can sing country and rock

that's him walking down the plane's ramp

I'll just listen to John's records and turn up the amp

it was many years ago

when John sang Jack and Diane.

Out with the old and in with the new

I still like to keep the old near

for they had a different point of view

and I wish that they were all still here.

I'll just listen to John's records...
