I'm Not Doing So Well

So down on my luck lately

I've been missing my baby

I don't know about you

but it's driving me crazy

I've been missing her like you'd miss your right arm

your rabbit's foot or my good luck charm.

Though it didn't do the rabbit no good

I lost her somehow in the neighborhood

How could I have been so deaf and so blind

for my baby's yours now she'll never be mine

I may as well toss my hands up in defeat

Throw on my jammies go to bed and to sleep

and dream I never lost her to the likes of you

don't ever want to wake up caged in this zoo.

I'm no king without his queen

in his castle unseen

how could I have ever been so bad and so mean

to leave my baby right there outside the gate
