I came in to this bar to have me a drink or two
then I turned around and ran right smack dab in to you
I thought that I left you on the other side of the mountain
when I climbed down here to have me a drink from this fountain
where I found you standing in the way of my dreams it's true
I just can't get away from you by drowning in my blues.
Like a sore thumb hit by a hammer by damned
another bill laid before me from old Uncle Sam
hit hard in the stomach of love by a ram
can't get away from you no matter where I am.
A complete stranger down at the end of the bar
came up to me and said mister, yore away out thar
It's like you left yer mind on the other side of the mountain
here buddy this drink is gonna be on me cause yore poutin'
and you can't chase em mares away cause they'll find you
you just can't get away from em by drowning in yer blues.
Like a sore thumb hit by a hammer by damned
another bill laid before me from old Uncle Sam
hit hard in the stomach of love by a ram
can't get away from you no matter where I am.
So you haunt me and taunt me like a ghost in the night
and I'm here getting drunk cause I can't put up a fight
with a dream left there on the other side of the mountain
when I climbed down here to have me a drink from this fountain
where memories come shimmering back like old song tunes
I just can't get away from you by drowning in my blues.
Like a sore thumb hit by a hammer by damned
another bill laid before me from old Uncle Sam
hit hard in the stomach of love by a ram
can't get away from you no matter where I am.
