Once I took the bottle from my mother
Now I take the bottle from a bar
Once I lived with sisters and brothers
Now it's the back seat of a car
Once I was tucked beneath the covers
Now I sleep beneath the stars
Once I was young and had a lover
Now I wonder where they are
And like the leaves on the trees
That are falling to the street
I wonder where the time has gone
That's passing like the breeze
Once I was cared for by my father
Now I'm left here on my own
Once I didn't mine much or bother
Now I wish to God that I could roam
Once I had to go see the doctor
Now I'm lying here still as stone
Once was enough they'll be no other
Now you can see me at the funeral home
And like the leaves on the trees
That are falling to the street
You wonder where the time has gone
That's passed you and me
