Surely Shirley will come on down
and surely Shirley still lives in town
And if Shirley lives in the country
then surely someone will bring her around.
Bring her around to her senses
Bring her around and make her see
That no one in the city or country
loves my Shirley surely more than me.
While I stopped to smell her roses
I stepped upon all of her flowers
While I thought I made her heart happy
I found that I was tearing it apart.
Shirley told me one dreary May
that she was going to move away
I just laughed and told her never
and I've never seen my Shirley to this day.
Someone said they'd seen her shopping
for a fancy wedding ring
Shirley told me she'd never marry
So are you for sure about this thing.
I went and saw her groom to be
and he looked a lot like me
We were left standing in the church
Now both of us has suffered hurt.
Surely Shirley will come on down
and surely Shirley still lives in town
And if Shirley lives in the country
then surely someone will bring her around.
then surely someone will bring her around.
