What's Left Of Me

You don't always get what you want

but do you always get what you need

or like a ghost that never comes to haunt

all you have is a heart that will bleed.

Giving and never getting a thing in return

or returning everything that you've ever had

A soul holding out for love and getting burned

when you reach out for the good and net the bad.

Waiting patiently until you just drift away

where your mind is blank and nothing fills the void

except for the loneliness of a gray clouded day

that leaves you feeling just like a zombie droid.

You can take me with you or leave me way behind

but at the moment I really don't care

You can shake me up baby or grieve me this time

what's left of me has been laid bare.

If I can't have my cake and eat it too

then what's the point of baking me one

if I'm going to have to give it up to you

so you can toss me an old stale honey bun.

They say that where there's a will there's a way

then why's everybody shooting at will

because he's a big old turn screw today

when we can't pay on that over due bill.

A day much to late and a dollar to short

love swept me right off of my feet

into a dust pan like a poison wort

to the land fill down on lonely street.

You can take me with you or leave me way behind

but at the moment I really don't care

You can shake me up baby or grieve me this time

what's left of me has been laid bare.
