Matters of the mind or matters of the heart
which one takes precedence over the other
to the bringing together or the breaking apart
of fathers and mothers, sisters or brothers.
Not only family members but friends and neighbors
a village and town, city or metropolis
Are we the lovers or the haters
of country or nation and its populace.
A heart or a home and a mind on fire
who do we seek to come to our aid
could they help us or would they crush a desire
will we be divided or united, broken or made.
What drives us to do the things that we do
should it be the mind or the heart that will decide
about who stays and who has to move
what gets destroyed or built by our pride.
Is it banks full of money or seas full of oil
that makes up our minds to deprive
our children and their children who have to toil
and give up the fight for we took away their drive.
A heart or a home and a mind on fire
who do we seek to come to our aid
could they help us or would they crush a desire
will we be divided or united, broken or made.
