I’m sure I heard your voices, one time when I was young.
I’m sure I heard your little feet rush past me, having fun.
So long ago it’s hard to tell, imagination runs Pell mell.
You little people hither and yonder, you really, really
make me wonder, was I dreaming in the night
when first you came unto my sight?
Shadows scattered across my walls, some of you little,
and some of you tall. I watched you all dance your merry dance,
you feasted there and had your ball.
All upon my bedroom wall.
Childish mind accepting all that I had seen,
I followed you to places that I had never been. I joined your playful games,
Took time to remember all of your names.
Funny, how they all sounded the same.
‘ Imaginary play’ I’d hear my parents say,
Best friends together, the Good folk and I
Best friends forever the little folk and I.
Through the swiftly coming years I began to see you less and less.
Whilst too busy growing older, my life becoming a mess.
I thought about you not, to this I sadly confess.
I let you slip away day by precious day
Whilst my one and only Childhood; slowly fell by the way.
