Trying to make a living and get some decent pay

Putting in the overtime day after day.

I know that you loved us. You didn't have to say.

We all knew this was your own special? way.

Putting in the overtime day after day.

Love and warmth abounded

within our happy home. I never did want

and I never went without.

Hard work and effort each and every day to

tell us the things that you just couldn't say.

So you put in the over time day after day.

Winter, summer, hail or rain. In mortar and in muck

You went out again. I needed new shoes and a

Coat to ware. Three miles to the bus stop, but you didn't care.

"Put your best foot forward and it'll get you there"

I knew that you loved me, I knew that you cared. You never had to say.

You just put in the over time day after day.

The breadwinner and family protector.

That's what you were, a man to look up to

And everyday be proud of.

For looking at you now, Gnarled work roughened hands, and

Grey and bent of back. I look at some young men of this here

age and see how much they lack.

For all my day's I'll thank you, for what you couldn't say,

Putting in the overtime day after day.
