The Beany Blues
by Susan H Fouts
You talk of beans
As if they are going out of style
But when I fix them
They make you smile
But only for a little while.
You said you'd be happy
if you ate them each day
but I think you are dreaming
What can I say.
I fix a pot and they sit and sit
Are you afraid they'll make you sh_t
Oh, woe, I have the beany blues
Pintos and cornbread
Will last me through
The great depression
They'll see me through.
Oooh, sure they will
If you eat them still
But after a day or two
The feeling goes away
And if I don't freeze them
I have to throw them away.
Oh,woe, the beany blues
I'd make a new pot
With some cornbread too
But after a day and a ton of gas
I'll see you later
I think I'll pass.
