Snow Camels

Poetry By: teargen

During the winter two mallards would make the trek from the lake to our yard. This is about their tenacity, hardiness and survival.

Like ambition

with orange webbing they

transcend the desperation

of winter

in a blush of green

on the face of white.

Their blue water

has been fettered,

yet they remain implacable.

In this cold desert

they disregard arduous dunes,

retain the ancient spontaneity,

and invest

in survival.

We part the curtains

to expose the landscape,

then reward

the account

with a convening

at the gate.
