He wished he could have known her
Then, wished he could have saved her
From her fate, if fate it was,
Whether gods or men decide
Such things, or maybe none and
All be random pickings of
The vultures of the age. He
Wished he could have held her
Safe, hidden her from dark forces
That plagued her land, age, and time,
Wished he could have rescued her
From the coming crime, the sour
Slaughters, the age of demon
Dark and bloody kingdoms cursed.
Had he known her then, he would
Have tried to kept at bay those
Wolves of hate, and kept her safe,
Protected in his loving
Arms, would have taken her to
Some other lands near or far,
But he now can only mourn:
For Anna died at Babi
Yar before his life was born.
********************************
In memory of Anna Glinberg, a Jewish child who was later killed during the mass execution by the Nazis at Babi Yar alongside 100,000 others. Poem by me and my Muse.
