Saturday Night (Poem)

Poetry By: thomaskutz

This is a poem that describes the life of adolescents and the party scene in which many of them partake. *Concepts may be harsh for children*

Saturday Night

Another Saturday night.
These kids drop by
On their way to find
their weekly high
It's not about the feeling
It's not about the fun
It's all about the image
They get when they're done.
No classy dinner
No fancy clothes
Each week it seems
They find lower lows
What don't they get?
About this life
There's more to this
Than Saturday night.
But they don't care
And they don't mind
That they're throwing away
All of their time.
Not time to be a kid
Not time to screw up
But learn already
That its time to grow up.
It doesn't make you cool
And it doesn't make you fly
To throw away your life
Because you get high.
Try just once
Try saying no
You might find happiness
You'd never have known.
Or choose not to listen
Like most of you will
But think long and hard
Before you pop that next pill.
Because the next time you do
You may not see the day
That you can just move on
And try the other way.
It may not be popular
It may not be tight
But know there's a difference
Between wrong and right.
When it comes to your health
There's something you should do
Take care of yourself
Start brand new.
It's not too late now
To turn back and see
The life that's waiting
Is not just a dream.
There's love that's real
There's things that are fun
In this life you could lead
If you leave your other one.
It may seem impossible
But I encourage you to try
And life may take you
On a much smoother ride.
But you have to decide
If you want to amount
To more than this life
And make it actually count.
If you don't choose wisely
Then don't be surprised to find
That your life may often
Put you in quite a bind.
It isn't for anyone
To convince you or not
But for you to realize
It will help you a lot.
You don't have to like this
Or even enjoy the rhymes
But you ought to think twice
Before the next time.
What will it take?
Someone to die?
For you to see
That drinking takes lives.
Not only that
But smoking too
It'll destroy your brain
Then it'll kill you.
Stop being too cool
And start being smart
Because one day
It will all fall apart.
