My Sacrifice

I took my heart,
locked it up,
and threw away the key.

I took the box,
said a prayer,
and tossed it in the sea.

I watched the box,
slowly sink,
to the bottom it would go.

I've frozen all feeling,
numb inside,
no love to know.

I've been hurt,
too much,
I had to stop it now.

I had to block,
everyone out,
more pain, I couldn't allow.

I will be alone,
forever more,
I've become cold as ice.

To save myself,
all the tears,
I've made my sacrifice.
