Death of the Nymph

Poem By: tin2twinkling

a mortal and a magical being's love was meant to die.

“Love never dies a natural death. It dies because we don't know how to replenish it's source. It dies of blindness and errors and betrayals. It dies of illness and wounds; it dies of weariness, of witherings, of tarnishings.” --Anais Nin View table of contents...

His eyes reflected her tearful face,
Barely visible in the dark water
That smoothed itself for the Prince
Of all lifetimes languidly lived,
And screamed in agony for help
Among the stars, the angels and the seraphs
But ended with the death of the nymph:

Once, love loved lustfully
To the joys and embraces of the mismatched mates,
Twice, love forgave the wandering of the Prince
Of all lifetimes lavishly lived,
But thrice love could wait no longer
For a  possibly impossible return.

The free-spirited nymph fretted and hoped
A last glance at the eyes that never moped
As they both flourished with nature,
Yet are now nowhere near her at all;
Down came her tears, down came the rain,
Freezing her heart cold, vanishing all pain,
Then comes the Prince a day too late.

His eyes reflected her tearful face,
Barely visible in the dead water
That smoothed itself for the Prince
Of all living lost love,
And screamed in agony for mercy
Among the stars, the angels and the seraphs
But ended with the death of the nymph.

Incredibly well written poem of a story well told. Gave it an "I Like It" vote.

Was wondering about:

Verse 3, Line 6:

Did you mean to say "vanquishing" instead of "vanishing"? Just wondering.

Happy trails,

Ed Bradley.

thank you so much! and for the word that you were wondering about, i did mean 'vanishing' since 'vanquish' would mean the nymph overcame the pain, which she didn't.. that line really meant that she couldn't withstand the pain and it ultimately led to her demise.

i hope that was a helpful explanation..

another beaufiful poem, could defiantly fit into the Greek myths. i love how the dark water becomes dead water and how help becomes mercy when all hope is gone.
