Just like every time, it was at night when you kissed me
Feelings of love coursing through my memory
But as the hours ticked on, I knew we had to stop
And just like every time, my heart would just drop
Because before the sun awakens, you must go on
Right into the arms of the one you call your own.
I'm nothing but your shadow lover
A dirty sin you try to cover
The guilty pleasure that you hide in the dark
A faded flame of love left without a spark
But I no longer want to be your shadow lover
I'm not a dirty sin that should be covered.
The night belongs to us, the moon and every star
But under the sun, no one knows who we are
And I can't compete with someone that you say you love
Because 24/7, I know I'm not the one you're thinking of
I'll never be but your secret, covered by night
I'll never be but your secret, who'll never see the light.
And as I stare at my fading reflection, a new me I start to discover
I'm gonna walk in the day alone for I am no longer your shadow lover.
