Remembering a woman on the road.

Sitting behind the wheel,

on a long country run,

California behind me,

with the setting sun.

A foot on the pedal,

a knee tapping time,

as music plays,

the radio's sad rhyme.

Big chrome bumper,

lit up in the night,

like long-burning candles,

a soft guiding light.

Three tanks full of gas,

the big one behind,

a long, flat dark trail

runs on in my mind.

It's a long way to Arkansas,

where that oil is due,

a long, quiet journey,

thinking of you.
