Back in the game

Poetry By: Trupti Soman

I just started playing Badminton after a long break of 5-6 months. Its really exciting to get back again.
Though I am not an expert, just a beginner, the game is really special to me.

Adrenaline is coursing through my veins

Yeah I am nervous and excited

With a fist lodged on the grip

I am ready with my stance

One leg forward; knee bent

My opponent is an expert

She will guess out my moves from my position

Like last time

But not this time

After going through that tedious process of tossing

We finally begin

It feels like slow motion

As I begin the first, serve

The shuttle is in the air and then it hits her racket

The shot is a smash in my face

A flop show already

One -zero, she is beaming

My grip is firmer now

I cannot lose

Her service is a clever backhand

She knows I cannot retaliate to short serves

But this time I can

I flick it back to her

And then begins, a game of to and fro

I am running she is serving

At one point, she has the top score and the next moment

The game is in my hands

She is experienced I am not

I am trying to get her shots out of that line

However, she is too clever for me

Its like I hit and I miss it

Heads follow our action

It is a tie now

Just one point now

'I can do it'

Everybody's eyes are on me

I have the last serve

There it goes…

My amateur shot

Towards her and she

I am back in the game again.
