The Green-Eyed Monster

Poem By: UncommonCold
Poetry

This poem was one of the two not of a particularly formatted style type that I got to do for my poetry book in creative writing. One of my free poems, so to speak. It has a bit of a dark beginning, but a good catharsis-inducing twist at the end. This is the representation of Envy in my Seven Deadly Sins series. View table of contents...

The green-eyed monster of jealousy,
Oh she’s as blind as she can be.

Blinded with pain, turning into the fires of anger.
A bleeding heart, a mindless danger.

Burning with wanting,
It’s you she is hunting.

Lost in the flaming pain of rejection,
Burning green eyes stare into the night with no direction.

Clenched fists collide against the mirror,
Crack and shatter,
Kill the mirthless laughter.

She is trapped in a self-made hell,
Fresh blood dripped down while shattered glass fell.

Tears fell down as she ran into the storm,
Thorns ripped her skin, oh how they tore.

Green eyes filled with jealous rage,
Cried as she stumbled through the storm’s haze.

Down a muddy red dirt road,
She ran to a bridge with her story untold.

Blood dripped down her fingers into the creek,
While she stood shaking, angry and weak.

She screamed to the stormy heavens her hate of herself,
Then turned and walked away from the option of death.

This green-eyed monster walks through the night,
Hoping beyond hope for an all-ending fight.

In hatred she waited,
This monster created,
Wanting nothing but for her pain to be sated.

So the monster waited,
Shaking and writhing,
Shriveling and dying.

But blood spilled would never be,
For this monster called jealousy.

this gives an incredible visual of how powerful Jealousy can be-it reminded me of a Tori Amos song called "The Waitress"-you'd have to be a big fan and know why it reminds me of it...but clearly, u are great with creating mountains of emotion in your poetry....I like your style....

Thank you! This one is actually one of my Mom's favorites out of my work. I have a lot more left to post, but this one is pretty special to me. Thanks so much for the comment! -really appreciates it- I'll have to look up that Tori Amos song and listen to it tomorrow!
