Maybe it is greener...

Knotty, soft, yet rough,

it grows tall and lean

across the prairie all spring

and all summer.

It reaches for the sky,

and the children, the dogs,

the cattle, and the Namesake

roll in it, quietly.

Winter takes it away

with a quick coat of white,

only to melt away with new spring,

vanishing as it came.

And again, it reaches

to the sky, providing

a way of life for those

who know it.
