Monday Morning Blues

Poem By: Urja
Poetry

This morning I while I was in the shower, in a usual grumpy monday mood, these lines (I wouldn't call them poetry) suddenly came to me. I wrote them down while still in the towel. So don't expect any literary masterpiece here - this is just to cheer everyone up for the start of the week. Enjoy! View table of contents...

It's monday - I'm at work and I am whining,

The wasted weekend swiftly flew me by;

How will I pass these crazy weekdays working?

How will I last till the lazy weekend arrives?

The thought of monday mornings spoils my sundays,

But friday nights are meant for party time,

Sweet saturdays are worth some hours of slogging,

Lamenting weary week of wasted time ............

Ah! so true. Monday morning blues. Especially after the long I-Day weekend. Good to know I have company in my misery. Why can't we just have tuesdays after sundays?? Why the world needs a monday?

Oh I know.... to teach us .... "After every dark night, there is dawn

...... and vice versa"

:-D Nice piece again

Perhaps we should start a campaign to have mondays eliminated! Unfortunately, after five dark days and nights there is a dawn, and it fades away all too soon. Yes, good to know we have company in misery! Thank you Kshitij!

witty and descriptive , i'm jealous , i wish i'd thought of it first .
super poem gorgeous .

You know what, Terry, I think it was you who inspired me to think of funny lines. Some more days of reading your poetry and I'm going to switch to that style as well - it is so much fun! Thank you Terry.

hey a lovely poem, nice rhymes too. says what we all think. I always think the showers a good place for creativity, must be the warm water which starts the mind thinking and i just love it poems pop into your head. I think this will put a smile on many peoples faces, which all good poerty does.

Hahaha.... yes, the shower is indeed a good place for creativity - I always come up with solutions to many problems while in the shower! Oh, but no warm showers to be had here in India - as it is it's quite warm here. Thank you, Matthew.

Hello Urja,

What a pleasant surprise this evening after dinner to find your invitation to read your "short silly Poem". Would that I could whip up something equally brief and amusing.

We are so lucky on Booksie to be able to share in these "gems". The talent on this site is like a banquet spread before us, day after day.

Kind regards,
Susan

Hello Susan, you know what, I never realized it is not yet monday in many places! Yes, you are so right - we can all share so much on booksie. Thank you for your kind comment.

If you didn't have the downs then the ups would feel so good, i'm starting a campaign to sack Monday or begin the working week on a tuesday but then again work is our choice some choose by desire and others out of neccessity.
I choose to read interesting poems and fascinating short stories on booksie but then again i did win the national lottery some time since.
Do you want to know the secret to winning it big check out my future thread.BD

Hahaha, we will all join in if you start the said campaign! Wow, winning a lottery sounds fun! I will be sure to check out your writings. Thank you, Bufferdude, for taking the time to read and comment.

I love the correlation between the lazy weekend and the "weary week of wasted time" - ha, ha! You must be a procrastinator like me.
I enjoyed this, brought me a smile after a weary Monday!!

Hello Anna, YES, I am a total procrastinator! Good to see that I have company! The funny thing is that most of the people I know don't realize that I procrastinate, I wonder why! Thank you for the read and your comment.

heh, i hate mondays -_-
"wasted weekend swiftly flew me by"
-so true. *sigh* my weekends always disappear.
this was a nice silly poem ^^ dunno if it helped much, but i'll be reciting lines throughout the day to help haha

Hi Alice, don't berate yourself for wasting your weekend in your present frame of mind. The most important thing is to get you back on your feet. So nice of you to give this a read despite feeling low. Let's hope being busy at school would help. Thank you, Alice.

Ohhhhh... Ahhh.... OUCH!! How I remember those horrid Monday mornings when I was working full time!!

My favorite line is:

"The thought of Monday mornings spoils my Sundays"

Yes, I can remember it so clearly now, sitting in the living room watching TV on a Sunday afternoon, hoping and praying that Monday morning and the beginning of the work week would never come!! LOL

A delightful little poem, Urja, giving me a smile on this Monday morning.....Jerry

Posted: Aug 18, 2008

Author Comment:

Hahaha, Jerry, I can definitely imagine you sitting on an Sunday afternoon and dreading the thought of monday! Lucky you, if you are no longer working full time. Unfortunately I have many years to go till I get there (unless I decide to quit and do something else in life!). Thank you, Jerry, for reading and your lovely comment.

You said is straight sister! Top it off my vehicle is in the shop right now and we all know that means $$$$.

Yuk.

However, your encouragement helped sport a grin!

Posted: Aug 18, 2008

Author Comment:

Oh no! What happened to your vehicle? Let's hope you are just getting it serviced. I remember a time once when I had given my car for servicing - that was the time when Pratibha and I were working in the same place and living on the same campus. She used to take me as a pillion rider on her bike (yes, she rides a bike!), and one day she ended up slamming into the back of a bus! My heart almost stopped, but thankfully we were going very, very slow (thank God, for traffic snarls!). Not having a vehicle brought back those memories. Glad you got a reason to grin, though. Peach, your comments always bring lots of interesting thoughts in my head.

MY DEAR URJA,
when u r talking about MONDAY, i am thrilled and excited too....i met someone in YMCA who has Sun and Mon 'OFF".....I told her 'she is so lucky to have a MONDAY OFF"....GOSH, when i was working, i HATED MONDAYS.....
i LOVE THIS POEM...echoes the affirmation and a nod and a big smile from all of us...

HMMMM...HOT WATER SHOWERS "ARE" something....I tried that in our buiding apartment GYM and WOW....what a pleasure....

AND I CAN SEE YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY LOVING WRITING ON AN IMPULSE....HEE..HEE....
I HOPE U R ENJOYING THE MONDAY ( TODAY) WITH A BIG BIG SMILE...since we all r there in ur living room....with YOU, BY you and behind you....

ONE IMP INFORMATION - ONE SECRET FROM ME TO U - MONDAYS ARE HEAVEN FOR HOUSE WIVES....ALL OVER THE WORLD....TRUST ME....I DON'T KNOW WHAT %age WOULD THAT BE....
PLEASE PLEASE keep writing more of such lighthearted and lovely poems....they r enlightening.....

Posted: Aug 18, 2008

Author Comment:

Hee..hee.... Pratibha, have you forgotten that we don't take HOT SHOWERS in India? It is sultry and humid here and I'm happy that the water is cold! I can very well imagine you cursing mondays when you were working. You know what, Peach's comment reminded me of that time when I used to come with you on your bike and we had that little accident! You know what, I really enjoyed writing this totally silly and non-serious poem. You are right, I should try my hand at more of these - but I guess they have to come to me spontaneously, otherwise they will sound too contrived. Good to know that you don't have to worry about mondays any longer!

*sigh* how true!! I love the weekends, except for me I work 6 days on and 4 days off so I rarely feel that Monday feeling as I‘m often working a Sunday, though if my shifts start on a Monday I do get more moody. Heehee! Still this did cheer me up! I still have a night shift to work tonight so thanks for the smiles, Urja! ;) ~ Nixie

Hi Nic, you're on a night shift? Oh, I had those once, and I used to get depressed after about a week of those duties since daytime sleep would deprive me of sunlight and all I would ever see was twilight. At least it confirmed it for me that I was not a vampire! Thank you Nic for reading - it is always good to hear from you.

Oh, just thought I'd let you know that I laughed my ass off at your reply!!!!!!

Oh, i hurt my tummy laughing from that visual of you and Pratibha on a bike crashing!

......still laughing.

hehehe. I love it! Is it sad thought that I'm so busy I don't feel like there's a different between the weekday and the weekend? I would be up for more Urja life moments ;)

Oh no, you are living the life I just escaped from! Let's hope England would provide you with enough leisurely weekends to enable you to ressurect the ghost of monday!

oh good Lord, I got the biigest laugh out of seeing you and pratibha on a bike lol Haahahhahah, and then to hit a bus O_O oh no LOL.
hmmm, ok that was great fun ^_^
yes mondays, you canfeel it in the air, its everywhere lol. haha ya even if its not a bad work day that anxiety is there none the less.
On the weekend if I'm lazy then I am all the more likely to be anxiety on monday. why is that? do we punish ourselves for not doing anything? why can not we jsut be lazy and like it LOL ^_^
yes Urja the senses here says 'write more often in the shower' lol

Posted: Aug 18, 2008

Author Comment:

Yes, isn't that funny! We had lots of adventures back in those days - we drove around and explored many winding trails and picturesque green fields. Oh, I never punish myself for being lazy, because I have my 'lazy time' slotted in my organizer! I am allowed to not do anything then. Writing in the shower, eh? I think I shall do that!

This poem did indeed brighten the beginning of my week (although it's already Tuesday ^^) The first line especially made me laugh, because I AM at work and I AM whining about it lol. This was a lovely, cheerful poem and it made me really anxious for the weekend ahead!

Hahaha.... I'm so glad you liked it. I'm happy that I'm answering this today, which is a thursday and the weekend is just in sight! Hope you have a great weekend. Thank you for your sweet comment.

Urja, you are quickly approaching my favorite booksie poet status. This is great in a uniquely personal way that just transcends the regular poems reach. Now, I believe this because it is one thing that most poems aren't: honest. You are yourself here and that is what truly makes a poem great. I like it very, very, very much. Take care!

Regan, coming from you this is high praise indeed! I am thrilled! So happy you liked it. Hope you are working on Part-4!

I couldn't agree more! You reached out and snagged this sentiment so well. Poo on Mondays!! They spoil my Sundays, too. My life has been one big Monday lately, and I'm trying to pull myself out of a funk. I hope this long weekend coming up (Labor Day weekend woo hoo!) will help. But then Tuesday will become Monday and I'll spend Monday dreading Tuesday!! Aaaah! ;-) Love this!

Hi Phoebe, I've been wondering why you haven't posted anything off late - now I know - Poor you, life being one big Monday and all. That's one realy lously phase to go through (just came out of one such 3 month long phase recently). Let's hope you get more free time soon. Haha... yes, Tuesday would certainly be Monday then! Great to hear from you. Do drop in a line when you post something new.

haha, so true!!
Sorry if i'm late, but that just threw me away!

Hello LeAnne! Great to hear from you. Thank you for reading and the sweet comment.

Can't remember who said it but they said "I don't mind travelling to work, its the 8 hour wait to go home I can't stand." Same can be applied to the horror that is the approach of Monday.

Still we need those Mondays just so we have something better to work toward come the weekend.

Well written even though it was an "in the shower" inspiration. Written in a way we can all identify with. :-)

Don't know why... but I usually have friday evening blues?

Posted: Sep 4, 2008

Author Comment:

Perhaps because you don't have funny interviews over the weekends?

How true, How true. Very nicely written.

I have a different schedule than most, some weekend and some weekdays, so Mondays and Fridays have a different meaning for me. Saturdays have always been my favorite though.

I am sorry it has taken a while to comment. If you read My News it will explain my temporary absence.

Thank you for sharing,

Hope all is well,

Take Care,

Ted

Ted, so nice of you to take the time to read and comment despite your loss. I hope your family is recovering. Yes, I can imagine, your job must involve erratic schedule, right? In fact, so does mine. Sometimes I keep seeing people around me go through this weekend thing, and then their feelings get projected into my head as if I've been experiencing it! Thank you again for taking the time to read this.

I have an odd work-week wherein Friday is my most stressfull and longest. Mondays and Tuesdays are easier whilst being more fruitful as well.

Your take on the week sets me off. I LIKE IT for it got me thinking about the shape of time; my time:

I don't often see time as waisted, but it can sometimes go pear-shaped.

Hi Craaig! I really like your concept about the shape of time - very interesting. Hahaha.... and long fridays making pear-shaped weeks! Quite funny and imaginative. Thank you so much for reading and leaving such an interesting comment.

Bob Geldof said it first . . .
that is not to say that we all cannot put down on paper our own take on Mondays, but I think this needed to be a bit more personal rather than confirming the almost universal that for most of us Mondays are a struggle.
A little light; perhaps if you had worked on it after attending work? I appreciate that it is a bit of fun, but isn't there a contradiction in your Fridays and Saturdays being described earlier as 'wasted'? Or was it you that was 'wasted'? Or both? And 'slogging' doesn't seem to fit with 'lazy'.
Just a bit of fun, and I've been serious about it, but if you post it up. . .
Keep writing but don't be lazy. the slog is worth it.

Hello Cartera! That's an interesting thought - working on it after attending work rather than before. Perhaps I will take you up on that and write another take on Monday, but this time after the day's work is done. That ought to be a different perspective, and interesting. Hahaha.... yes, it was I that was 'wasted'! Sharp of you to have caught on that! Thank you for your interesting comment.

Sweet saturdays are worth some hours of slogging,

why slogging on saturday ?? ROUNDS ??

Posted: Sep 12, 2008

Hahaha.... no, I meant they are worth the amount of slogging we put through the weekdays preceding the weekend!

Excellent piece of work

I'm already doing that this weekend.... Hahaha... Marathongman, I've read some of your works and they provided me with much needed humor. I'll get down to commenting soon. Thank you.

Hello Urja, I really enjoyed reading this poem! This is so true as it was so long ago back in the day when I actually knew when the weekend came and went. I am so busy with doing 3 jobs at work now that everyday feels like Monday anymore. Ha ha ha!!! What day is it?

Posted: Oct 7, 2008

Author Comment:

Ha ha ha .... when you commented, it was Tuesday, and today is Thursday - either way, it is not Monday anymore! Wow, 3 jobs must really keep you busy - are you a workaholic or waiting to save a tidy sum for the time when you and your love are together? Being busy must also help in dealing with the pangs of a long-distance relationship.

Impulsive writing is more of a masterpiece than constructive writing, but that is in my eyes. I wanted my next piece to be based around Monday, but you beat everyone it seems. I will call it a 'response'.
How convenient that I should read this on a Monday night... just glad to be moving onto 'Tolerable Tuesday'.

Posted: Oct 13, 2008

Author Comment:

Aaah, Onion! A Monday Response from you would be just FANTASTIC. I'd say, just GO FOR IT! And I agree - I like the impulsive writing part - somehow it feels more passionate and less controlled - something which we strive to achieve in life quite often.
