Wave upon crashing wave of grief,
I drown in this ocean of solitude.
Dark, churning waters of unfathomable depths
It is over, all cards have been played and
all I can do is lament the hand life dealt me.
Stolen moments of bliss with you,
ecstasy hidden from the thief in the night,
the wolf at the door, the closing of the bell.
But nothing can stop the finale –
The show must go on.
And now my dream has concluded,
stranded in a raging stormy sea of loss,
and I cannot breathe under water.
The greater the joy, the deeper the wounds,
the deeper the depths of the sea.
All that I have lost, love and joy and possibility.
And the time I would have wasted with you,
the sunsets that would have stretched on forever,
and the cozy silences with you sitting by my side.
Such are the comforts of established love,
struck down by the brilliant sword of expiration dates.
No further chapters to be written,
as the book has concluded,
leaving me with nothing left to read.
