Its true
I woke this morning to find you gone.
Frantically
I began to search,
search for evidence it wasn’t true.
Your side of the bed,
looking dreadfully forsaken
still held your warmth,
the shape of your body;
Your favourite mug was
on the table
pretending the morning
was like any other;
Your touch still
lingering longingly
on my cheek.
It had to be a fearful dream,
nothing more!
But then I took an inside look
and half my heart was missing,
erasing every doubt:
You really were gone,
the evidence of your
beautiful existence
A lie.
