I shared hearts with a true poet once
we gingerly swapped ideas, clever glances
and we embraced in life's sweet song
we lived lucid lives
never dim
but streaming nonetheless with aberration
pulsing rich with an energy that could light the moon
we danced above all others
that swam in our enveloping shadows
I gave my heart to a true poet once
I am empty now and bottomless
with nothing but these futile words to fuel my waking life
Indeed, an all needed sacrifice
to have just once tasted a love so pure
