Who Is There Now?

Poetry By: willow brook
Poetry

This poem is about the Tasmanian Aboriginal...I wrote this a very long time ago, when my connection to the earth was very sensitive to those who had trod this way before me, and at times i did hear and see them, and felt there loss and there fear to go on without a song.

What can we do for the lost spirits of the past that are wandering through this land?
In my dreams they seem so sad and angry.
You can hear them if you listen to the wind and the rain,
for they cry their sorrow loud and clear, even today.

Who is there now, that knows the songs to sing them to their spirit land.?

The fire-sticks they carried to keep themselves alive,
they used them in their hunting and to change direction of the wind.
To stop the rising waters over flowing, when a flood would begin.

Who is there now, that knows the songs to sing them to their spirit land.?

The land was their foundation, and with respect they cared for it,
replacing the nourishment that it gave with tender love and worship.
for it was from the earth they came.

Who is there now, that knows the songs to sing them to their spirit land.?

Their temple lay beneath their left breast, where the heart beats within, it's where their souls begin.
They educated their children by the sun, the moon, the stars, and by the earth beneath their feet.
Where once they roamed so proud and free.

Who is there now, that knows the songs to sing them to their spirit land.?

Maybe if we looked after the land and cared and showed respect.
Maybe that would be enough to send them on there way.
To stop their tears from raining down.
To stop the echos in the wind.

Who is there now, that knows the songs to sing them to their spirit land.?-written by Robyn Brown.
