I seem to change yes deep inside

It is a change I cannot hide

Due to circumstance now my life I share

I did not seek this, for I had no care

But another life now lives with me

And my aging brain said this cannot be

But still he came and moved on in

I had no choice so had to grin

But as time did pass, its now I find

I feel a warmth of another kind

Though I be one who is hard of heart

I know that Charlie and I, will never part

Yes I pay his food and doctors bills

For he needs injections and those pills

He comes from a land that’s far away

It was from Mexico but is now here to stay

He comes and sits upon my knee

And if you’ve not guessed, he’s a dog you see

A Chwowa, oh yes and very small

But in his mind he is very tall

He guards the house as if with lion’s mane

I’m sure he thinks himself just one Great Dane
