A poem I wrote dealing with part of my struggles with depression

I tap, it teases

It’s hiding in my drawer

I’m tempted to use it

I close my eyes

I give in, I saunter

Opening the drawer

I smile

I do not think twice

I cough, I cringe.

It bites into my arm.

I clench my teeth.

Who am I now?

I release, eyes open

Into the mirror

I sigh, dismayed

I am the same person I was before
