MOONLIGHT

we sailed along in silence

one night when the full moon was bright

the lake was calm and peaceful

on that long ago summer night

we had no need for small talk

only glances filled with love

and the stars twinkled like candlelight

flickering high above

it seems like only yesterday

but it was many years gone by

when moonlight shone and we glided along

beneath a velvet sky

if only time could take me back

or tell me the reason why

I now sit alone, on moonlit nights

sit alone, and cry

I miss the beams of soft moonlight

reflecting on the lake of blue

but most of all, my only love
