How to Draw Close to God and/or How to feel loved by God
What does it mean to draw close to God? It means to get to know Him better.
God is like a fountain of love. He is overflowing with love. He IS Love. (1Jh 4:8) When you get close to LOVE, what do you think will happen? You will start to feel love! Here is your chance to experience love in all its greatness as you have never felt it before.
God told me once that just like in an incident when a woman touched Jesus and the power came out of Him and healed her, (Lk 8:43-48) in the same way, when a person touches God, the LOVE comes out of Him and is poured onto a person. It's a fact. That's the way it works. God said that we don't have to work hard to feel His love. All we have to do is to touch Him, and it will just happen.
God is Love. And the nature of Love is in giving. Love gives. God needs to give. That's His need. Love needs to give. But Love cannot give to those who don't want it, or don't receive it, or don't accept it. So in order for this to work, we need to want God's love. And we need to come close to Him in order to receive it.
God is Holy. When we want to come close to Him, we need to purify ourselves. We are washed and purified by the Word of God. So we need to pour the Word of God into our soul. It will purify our soul. And in the meantime, don't get your soul all dirty again by letting some ungodly stuff into it at the same time as letting God's Word into it. You will then have mixed results. If you really want to draw close to God, try to eliminate other things, nongodly things, or even just things that serve as a distraction in your drawing close to God. (at least for now) At least until you DO draw close to God.
And later, when you meet God, you can decide for yourself whether you want to go back to the things like TV and books and hobbies. But for the purposes of this journey, leave all those behind (for now). Purify your soul completely by immersing it into the Word of God. And don't even waste too much time reading spiritual books. You can do it on the side, for a tiny bit. But mostly, let it be the Word of God, because IT IS the one that purifies the soul.
JAM 4:8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts
JOH 15:3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.
2CO 6:17 "Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you."
JOH 17:17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.
1PE 1:22 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth
2CO 7:1 let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit
1JO 3:3 Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.
Let God's Word be poured out on you like rain. Read each verse slowly and thoughtfully. Meditate on it. Try to see what GOD wants to tell you. Listen to your heart for a few minutes. Sometimes it takes a few minutes before a meaning from God comes. Don't think of it theologically. Think of it as - your GOD, TALKING to you right now. Let it pour into your soul like a purifying water. Slowly move to another verse and another. Let God's Word FILL your soul.
Give the Word of God your BEST time. The time when you are most alert and most receptive. It's like giving God a living sacrifice without defect or blemish. Your BEST time. Not the leftovers. Not when you are too tired to think. Your best time. It's important. Give this gift to your God. Think of the gift He gave to you: His very life. Can you not even spare your time for Him?
It's very important. Our goal - is to learn to live this life for God, not for ourselves. But we can at least start small. We can at least start with giving our best time to His Word.
MAT 10:38-39 and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
(Finds this life - means lives it for yourself. Lose life - means lose eternal life. So Jesus said: if you live for yourself, you will lose eternal life.)
MAT 16:24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it. What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?
It's true that God asks a lot of you. But remember one thing: He NEVER asks for more than He Himself already did.
He asks for everything. But I want to remind you that God too, gave you everything. We are to FOLLOW in Jesus' footsteps. We are to do what He already did. God didn't just give Himself at the cross one time. God is still giving ALL of Himself to us. He lives for us. The Holy Spirit, God, lives in us, and DAILY is working in order to guide us, lead us, strengthen us, comfort us, love us. Unselfishly. He is doing everything for us. All His rules are for our good. Even when He tells us to praise Him, it's not because He wants praise for Himself (although He does), He tells it to us because it will make US feel good. It will HELP us. It will give strength to US. The Holy Spirit is like a mother who gives her life to taking care of her child. God never asked us for MORE than HE did. So just remember this. All you have to do is to reciprocate.
Another thing to remember is this: God does NOT want you to live a boring sad little life. Rejecting yourself and the world does NOT mean your life will suck. God wants to give you MORE than what you have. He wants to give you RICHES, true riches. And they are not just spiritually good. You will FEEL that they are good. You will be HAPPY of what you found. The abundant life that God has prepared for you can start here on earth. Your eyes will be opened and you will see the "junk" of the world for what it is. Paul said that he counts everything as nothing. Because whatever God gave him is soooo much more. Paul is not brainwashing himself. It's just that he really DID find the abundant life. It really IS awaiting all those who are willing to give up their life for God. But don't stress that you can't do it. Trust God. He will help you. Focus on getting to know HIM better for now. Forget about denying yourself just yet. This is for the future. For now, just get to know Him so that you could feel His love for you.
His love for your is boundless. It's higher than heavens and deeper than oceans and more. It's endless, it's boundless. And He wants to pour it all into you. Of course, while on this earth, we still have to suffer and go through trials. And so we can't experience the joy and pleasure to the full extent which God wants to give us. BUT, we can still partly experience the riches of His great love. We can still have the peace that surpasses understanding. We can still have the joy that's unspeakable and comes from the depths of our hearts, not depending on our circumstances. And it's exciting. It's not boring. It's not for grandmothers. It's for every single soul and IT IS satisfying.
Did you know that you are the MOST special person to God and that He adores you beyond measure? It's true. And you can feel that when you draw close to Him. He reveals Himself to people in different ways. And He will show you how much He adores you. You will be amazed. He is your treasure. Seek it. Seek Him. You will be blessed beyond measure by what you find.
But sometimes, it takes a hard climb up the mountain before you can see the breathtaking view. Be diligent. Make your flesh surrender. Be a living sacrifice. Give your best to God. Give your time to Him. And start climbing that mountain. And you know what? You will reach a point when the climbing will become enjoyable. If you just hold on through the hard part, the climb DOES become enjoyable. Even before you reach breathtaking view, you will already start to enjoy yourself. Just hang in there until you start to enjoy it…
Another thing to remember is that God is a PERSON. He is a BEING. Christianity is NOT about a bunch of rules to follow. Christianity is about getting to know your God, falling in love with your God. The rules are there only to keep you safe from the influence of the evil one, to keep your soul from being corrupted in this world, while we are in this world. The rules are temporary. But the goal of everything is love. God loves. He wants you to fall in love with Him. So this is what "getting closer to God" is all about. This is why He created us. For love. We are His Bride. (Ps 45, REV 21:9, Song of Songs 4:10, ISA 54:5) We are not His pet. We are not incidental objects of His mercy. We are His Bride. We are His treasure. MAL 3:17 MAT 13:44 PSA 135:4 We are the best that He has. Imagine a person who fell in love with a girl. Do you think that person has anything better than His girl? In the same way, God (who chose us as His portion and His Bride) does not have anything better than His Bride. And that's why, even now, He gave His total time to taking care of His Bride. 1PE 5:7 EPH 5:29 ISA 40:11
That's why He died for Her. Eph 5:2 That's why it says in the parable MAT 13:44 that a merchant saw a treasure in the field, sold everything he had, and bought that field. Jesus Christ is the merchant. He gave his life for the whole world, (the field) in order to redeem His Bride, His chosen ones, (the treasure) out of this world (the field).
God dedicated his ALL to having us. He is watching over us as the apple of His eye. ZEC 2:8 ISA 27:3 DEU 33:12 He is going through a lot of pain, even now, just so that He could have us - His Beloved. "I would give anything for your love", He would say. (Jh 3:16) And He did. He gave everything. And He will give us everything in heaven too. It says that God gave Jesus everything. And that whatever God has is Jesus'. JOH 16:15 But it also says that we are co-heirs with Jesus Christ. ROM 8:17 So that means that God gave US everything that He has. How much more can God give? Is there anything that He didn't give?
The Bible says that WE are God's portion. His inheritance. Stop and think about it. What does it mean? How do people rejoice over getting an inheritance? HE has inheritance in US.
EPH 1:18 I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints,
ZEC 2:12 The LORD will inherit Judah as His portion
And God wants us to think the same of Him. He wants us to think that HE is our portion. Our inheritance. Ps 119:57, Lam 3:24, Ps 25:10 God is jealous because He loves us so much. He doesn't want to give us up. JAM 4:5, 2CO 11:2 SON 8:6 .. for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave DEU 4:24
We are His treasure. His TREASURED possession. WE are PRECIOUS to Him.
ISA 43:4 Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you…
EXO 19:5 ..you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, 6 you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' 1PE 2:9
Do you know HOW a groom in love rejoices over his bride? That's how God will too.
ISA 62:5 … as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so will your God rejoice over you.
ISA 62:3 You will be a crown of splendor in the LORD'S hand, a royal diadem in the hand of your God.
PSA 45:11 The king is enthralled by your beauty SON 4:10 How delightful is your love…my bride!
God has prepared for us a gift of perfect love. He gives us His love and His everything and Himself. And He wants us to give Him our love, ourselves, and our everything. So we can be bound together forever by a perfect love.
Did you realize that God is wanting to become ONE with us? Did you think of what it means? That God wants us to become a part of God? Did you think of the greatness of His gift to us? JOH 17:23 I in them and you in me, all being perfected into one.
This is the great God that you need to draw close to. This is the Love that you can touch.
So remember that God is a Being, a Person. He, by the Holy Spirit, lives in you. He wants to fellowship with you. He wants your love. He wants to talk to you. He wants you to talk to Him. Fellowship with Him, just like you would with someone you love the most on this earth. 1JO 1:3 -4
SON 2:14 My dove in the clefts of the rock, in the hiding places on the mountainside, show me your face, let me hear your voice; for your voice is sweet, and your face is lovely.
Talk to Him. He will find a way to talk back to you in time, in different ways. Listen for His answers. Talk to Him in your thoughts (or out loud). If you are blue, tell Him of your troubles. If you are happy, thank Him for all He gave you. And in between, just think of Him, of His greatness, of His character, His grace, His humility and admire Him. Tell Him so. Don't just talk to Him when you pray, or when you have needs. Talk to Him every spare moment that you have. Every time that your mind is not occupied by NECESSARY things. (Otherwise, make things that distract you fade into background, and focus your thoughts on Him instead).
Touch His heart by your loving thoughts. Caress Him by your gentle feelings. And you will be touched by Love. You will feel His love. And you will find a joy that you never had before.
REV 3:20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. (remember, this is written to the believers).
