I stood up high,
Almost touching the sky,
In the still night,
The world below not bright.
All on my own,
So utterly alone,
No creature stirred,
My aching heart unheard.
Tears filled my eyes,
The pain when someone dies,
Piercing me deep,
I stepped forward to leap.
Raising my head,
‘Please tell me why?’ I said,
No answer came,
I, too, would not remain.
Then like a voice,
Filling the air with noise,
The breeze blew clear,
Passing my very ear.
I noticed then,
It did shine like a gem,
A single star,
Twinkling gold from a far.
I felt God near,
My question He did hear,
Not to lose faith,
For He would keep me safe.
He is my Friend,
And to me He did tend,
A shining light,
It was Hope in the night.
