Just last night my loving God

Poetry By: John Wanjora
Religion and spirituality

A poem I wrote this morning when I woke up to the realisation of how real God is, and just how close He is in time of need.

It was just last night my loving God
In the spasms of my pains and fears
That you patted my back with a gentle truth
That I ought not worry, cry or faint
When I can leave my cares in your arms.

In the stillness of the moment you taught me
To wait upon you even when I have 'alternatives'
To walk your way even when it seems longer
For your thoughts are higher than mine
Your ways better than mine
And you need not my help God
To work out your will in me.

This morning I wake up in surrender
To your will and to your ways
To your joy, peace and love
O what a lovely way to live
Free of burdens, pains and fear
Even when I know too well
Of the many hurts there are in life.
